An undated view of the Nathaniel B. Palmer from the article referenced below.Hidden away in the fiscal year 2026 budget request submitted in May was the mention of taking this venerable research vessel off rent (my coverage of the budget submittal, with links to full text). After the vessel showed up from Lyttelton 9-12 May to pick up hazardous waste, it's been sitting in Punta Arenas.
Since the initial announcement there has been other news coverage...the above photo is from this 26 July AAAS/Science article. And Scientific American covered the story in this 19 August article. No further news.
